Because diversity of energy sources and energy security areconsiderations in Congressional deliberations on energy policy, this prospect could playa role in such discussions. However, there are obstacles to increases in Caspian Searegion production of oil and gas that slow some development. This report will beupdated as events warrant.The Caspian Sea is a 700-mile-long body of water in central Asia bordered byAzerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkmenistan.
