1 Information compiled from material received from the Office of Lands, Resources, andPlanning, National Capital Region, U.S. National Park Service, August 27, 2007.2 National Capital Planning Commission, the Commission on Fine Arts, and the National CapitalMemorial Commission are the three federal agencies responsible for the location and design ofnew commemorative works on federal land. Since 1997, the agencies have worked together asthe Joint Task Force on Memorials. In their initial report, the Joint Task Force recommended toCongress that the Commemorative Works Act be amended to change the name of the NationalCapital Memorial Commission to the National Capital Memorial Advisory Commission.
